Some sites lock everything behind a signup wall, so you have to commit before you even know whether the tool works. PDF Pelican does the opposite. You can drop a PDF in the homepage Drop Desk, choose a tool, configure your operation, and run it without ever touching a login form.
We only ask for a free account at the final step — when you're about to download the finished file. That's the moment where we ask for an email address and a verification click.
Why we ask for verification at all
Anti-abuse. Without any sign-in, automated bots can hammer the tools all day, drive up our hosting bill, and crowd out genuine users. Asking for a verified email at the download step puts a small amount of friction between the bots and the tools, which is enough to make automated abuse impractical.
We don't use your email for marketing emails, and we don't pass it to anyone.
What the free account gets you
Downloading finished PDFs from any tool on the site. That's it — there are no premium features behind the login. Everything that's gated behind the login is gated for anti-abuse reasons, not as a paywall.
Flow in detail
1. Drop or pick a PDF. 2. Choose a tool. 3. Configure your operation. 4. Click 'Run'. 5. The download dialog asks you to sign in or create an account. 6. Verify the email, click download. The verified-email check is one-time per account.
Privacy
Your PDF is processed in your browser. The account is for download-step verification, not file storage — we don't keep copies of your files on our servers.
Why a free account exists at all
A small amount of friction at the download step is what keeps the site usable for everyone. Without an account requirement, the same tools would be used 24/7 by automated scrapers and bot networks, and the resulting traffic would either crash the service or force us to introduce hard rate limits that hurt real users. A one-time email signup is the cheapest mechanism that defeats the bots while staying invisible to anyone who's going to use the site more than once.
It also gives us a way to email you if there's a problem with a file you produced, or to send you the very rare product announcement. We don't use it for marketing pushes, and we don't sell the address.
What the account does (and doesn't) do
The account stores nothing about your files. We never see the documents you process — they're handled in your browser. The account record is your email, when you signed up, and a flag indicating you've verified the address. There's no usage tracking tied to your account, no history of files you've processed, and no behavioural profile.
How verification protects everyone
Email verification proves that the signup is reachable at a real address. It's the simplest defense against throwaway scripted accounts. Once you've verified once, the tool remembers you on that device — there's no per-download verification.
